Smart and Skilled

If you answered ‘Yes' to all four questions, then you're eligible to enrol in a Smart and Skilled government-subsidised course.

What is Smart and Skilled?

Smart and Skilled is a reform of the NSW vocational education and training system. It's helping people get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers.

Smart and Skilled provides eligible students with:

  • an entitlement to government-subsidised training up to and including Certificate III
  • government funding for higher-level courses (Certificate IV and above) in targeted priority areas.

Entry Requirements:

This is a technical program. Applicants who do not have a Certificate IV in IT or Telecommunications must complete an Abbey College Applicant Suitability Assessment. Abbey College Australia will provide this assessment upon receiving the application for enrolment.

Smart and Skilled qualifications are subsidised by the NSW Government. If you're eligible for governmentsubsidised training under Smart and Skilled, you pay only a portion of the training cost. Please also note that Smart and Skilled fees are set for the whole qualification. They are not annual fees.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) students, students with disabilities and their dependants may qualify for fee exemptions when they enrol in Smart and Skilled training. Students receiving Australian Government welfare benefits and the dependants of welfare recipients may qualify for concession fees when they enrol in the Smart and Skilled training.

Abbey College Australia’s ICT51015 Diploma of Telecommunications Engineering course is a selected qualification under the Smart and Skilled for the Jobs of Tomorrow scholarship. This means that those who meet the Smart and Skilled enrolment eligibility and apply for this course may be eligible to receive a $1000 scholarship under the NSW Government’s Smart and Skilled Program.

Course Features

Diploma of Telecommunications Network Engineering

This qualification reflects the role of a technical specialist, with high level skills and knowledge in telecommunications and information technology (IT) networks using internet protocol (IP) systems.
An individual in this role can install, test and commission data communications networks in medium to large enterprises using next generation networks technologies. They can provide specialist technical support in monitoring and administering the installation and upgrade of large telecommunications and IT networks including local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), IP based protocol systems, secured networks, routers, switches and servers.

An Industry Oriented Approach

This is an intensive practical hands-on program designed to assist ICT graduates, professionals and those seeking a career change to obtain high level ICT skills in an intensive mode. Students will participate in more than 100 practical Cisco and Microsoft Lab activities using official Microsoft Curriculum and Cisco networking environments. This program will also provide a practical approach to ICT project management and students will have the opportunity to participate in a number of project activities.

Microsoft IT Academy

Abbey College Australia is an official Microsoft IT Academy member. This means our students can enjoy Microsoft IT Academy benefits, such as software licensing, E-learning and Microsoft digital resources.

Pearson VUE & Prometric Exam Centre

Students can take undertake both Microsoft MCSA and Cisco CCNA exams conveniently right on our campus free of charge*.

Student ACS Membership

Our students will receive one year membership to the Australian Computer Society.

Access to a Unique Telecom Lab

Students will have dedicated access to a full-set of Cisco hands-on lab equipment for CCNA as well as enterprise-grade physical servers.

One Year University Advance Standing

Graduates of the program will be eligible to enrol in a wide range of Advanced Diploma and Bachelor of IT & Telecommunication courses. Most universities will offer

equal to one year advance standing to the graduates. Abbey College Australia has advance standing arrangement with the following universities:
