General Description English for Academic Purposes 1 & 2 (Intermediate to Advanced)
English for Academic Purposes is designed to assist international students assimilate into Australian tertiary educational institutions.
The course introduces students to academic life through strengthening study skills such as in essay writing, note-taking, oral presentations and tutorial discussions.
A wide range of academic vocabulary and grammar forms an integral component of EAP. The balance of the EAP course will move from a language to a skills focus as students progress from EAP 1 to EAP 2.
Pre-requisites: Completion of an Intermediate English course for EAP 1 and Upper Intermediate English course for EAP 2 or equivalent skills CRICOS Code 057388D)
Or an Official IELTS score of 5.0 for EAP 1 and 5.5 for EAP 2.
Teaching Methods: This course will be delivered using a combination of varied interactive and practical exercises, lectures, handouts and tutorials.
Teaching Materials: There is a wide selection of core texts used in the selected themes of EAP 1 and 2. (Some of these are EAP Now, Steps in Academic Writing, Giving Academic Presentations and many more. Additionally this course will use authentic teaching resources and selected audio visual materials
Assessment Methods: Weekly assessments will be conducted and will form the basis of results on completion. A monthly progress report of results and feedback comments will help monitor students performance.
